Thanks for your interest in writing for Now I Get It! We would love to have your contribution. Here are a few very simple guidelines which will help you as you plan your article.
1. It goes without saying, (but we're saying it anyway) but keep it factual. No urban legends, opinions, personal observations, anything of that sort.
2. Keep it short. Leave the long articles for the other guys. Everything you have to say should fit on one page, preferably without scrolling. See our GPS Example Page for a good idea of length, as well as style.
3. Keep it simple. Use analogies, illustrations, examples, anything to create vivid mental pictures of what you're explaining. Don't talk down to your readers, but work at boiling things down to the basics. If you must use technical terms, consider hyperlinking them to another page and explaining them as well.
4. Keep it light. This is for fun and for basic info, not for someone's research paper. You don't have to give citations and sources, but know your stuff; don't guess. Use a little humor if it is relevant and helps with your explanation.
5. Keep it yours. We want your words. Please no copy and paste, even from other Creative Commons or public domain. Explain your topic in your own way, and if you need help, one of our other Contributors will no doubt be glad to help you write your way out of a corner.
6. Keep it text based. At some point we may add photos from Creative Commons sources, but for now stick to words.
7. Keep it fun! It's the Internet, not the Oxford English Dictionary. If you're having fun writing your page, your audience will have fun reading it.
An easy way to get started is to go to an existing page and look for a term or phrase that could use some more "explainin'." Create a new page and explain away! Once you work with the Wikidot syntax for a bit, you should have no trouble creating your own content. The edit page has icons for most all of the essential features.
